Reports have suggested that the pirates operating in the Gulf of Guinea have significantly extended their range after a product carrier was fired upon last week whilst transiting over 200 miles south of Lagos.
Fishermen in Gaza are protesting as Israel has restricted them to a three mile offshore limit during the recent conflict. Israel claims the blockade aims to prevent Hamas, from acquiring weapons or materials that could be used against it. According to Reuters reports, despite the usual 12 mile limit, the Israeli navy has curtailed fishermen to a six mile limit, reducing that to three miles when conflict has escalated. Fishermen have described being shot at or harassed by patrols when at the limit which is marked by illuminated red buoys.

The UK Coastguard Twitter feed @MCAMedia has warned of the hazard of unexploded bombs and other ordnance from the Second World War being washed ashore on the British coast. In recent years a number of incidents have occurred of wartime munitions being deposited on the coastline, including one on the North Sea coast near Mappleton consisting of approximately 1,000 bombs and other explosive training ordnance.
